Medical Social Worker working in Medical colleges

                   Good Day Greetings

I am Dr Veena S Algur MSW PhD  working as Medical social worker since 1988 ( 26 yrs ) . As a interested individual category ,as a expert of social work profession ,

I wish to opine regarding pay scale and Designation of Medical Social Worker working in Medical colleges that too in community Medicine  department

Medical Social worker is a team member in teaching community medicine subject , MSW are taking theory classes of sociology for MBBS students and take them to community level field visits

Social workers orient medical students to social realities ,how social determinants   influence health and disease ,WHO defines Health as Physical ,Mental and Social well being when  social components are important to health Why Social workers are not important  ,when social workers teach why they are non teaching staff members

College authorities say MCI has not recommended   that  is why
we are not promoting social workers ,is it not humiliating  ?

Pay is also very less it is not according to their Post graduate qualification and experience Why this discrimination ?

Social workers  working in health set up are having various problems related to Pay Scale and  Designation which makes them feel inferior in work place There is powerful apex body to look in to it

There is need to form the committee of experienced  social work professionals  to study  issues related to social workers in health set up

Please note social workers are catalysts of National development  ,encourage them to excel

                                                             with regards

                                                     Dr Veena S Algur
